British broadcaster Piers Morgan has called on Queen Elizabeth to strip the royal titles of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after Markle waited in line for the upcoming presidential election last week.
“The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles,” wrote Morgan on Twitter on Friday, with Markle’s remarks called “an infringement of royal protocol.”
“They can not remain as royals and spit on foreign elections in such a busy partisan way,” he said.
On Thursday, Markle appeared as a special guest on ‘When All Women Vote’, an online event to encourage people to go to the polls in November.
Markle said those who did not cast their ballots in the election were “complicit”, and although she did not nominate a candidate, she said: “We all know what this year is about.”
“If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem,” she continued. “If you are self-satisfied, you are employees … We can make a difference in this election and we will make a difference in this election.”
While UK law does not prohibit royalty voting, the Queen is politically neutral.
