After the early offense’s 2020 script, pitching shook at mid-game and ran against bullpen, the Phillies lost 6-6 on Friday.
Philos is 28-30 with two games left.
The only teams the Phillies can hold in the NL playoff are the Giants and the Cardinals.
Here’s why:
- The Marlins finished second in the NL East, beating the Yankees in extra innings on Friday. They are 30-28 and have a tiebreaker in the head from above the Phillies.
- The Reds beat the Twins to get a playoff berth. They cannot pass through Phyllis. Both the Phils and Reds finished 21-19 against their divisions but the Reds have the next tiebreaker. They are 12-8 in their last 20 divisional games compared to the Phillies ’8-12.
- The Cardinals split the double header with the brewers. The Phillies can only hold the cards if they win their final two games, St. Louis lose its final two and then lose both doubleheader games on Monday against the Tigers. Those games against the Tigers will only be played if they object to deciding the NL playoff field.
The Giants won their first doubleheader game against Pedres.
If the Giants win their doubleheader 2 game on Friday, the Phillies can only hold on if they win their final two games and the Giants lose their final two.
If the Giants lose 2 of their doubleheaders, Philly needs them to go 1-1 when they go 2-0 up to pass it.
