Philadelphia Eagles start left tackle Andre Dillard tears biceps, says source

PHILADELPHIA – Eagles start with left tackle Andre Dillard tore his biceps and will likely need a season-ending operation next week, ESPN source Adam Schefter said.

Dillard, the team’s first pick in 2019, suffered the injury during one-on-one training early in Thursday’s practice. He was brought in after being evaluated by coaches.

Jordan Mailata, a former Australian rugby player, replaced Dillard in the lineup. The team also has the option to move 38-year-old Jason Peters back to the tackle to the left. He was re-signed this offseason to play court guard after Brandon Brooks’ Achilles heel broke. The Peter Signature was also considered an insurance policy in approach.

Dillard, 24, has had an up-and-coming training camp and had missed some time with an unrelated shoulder injury. On Wednesday, he was driven into the back of Carson Wentz’s legs by edge rusher Joe Ostman. Wentz bent over but was fine and finished practicing.

Dillard, from the state of Washington, started four games as a rookie in 2019, with mixed results.
