Phil Spencer closes the idea that Xbox Game Pass reaches other platforms

Xbox Game Pass

Last year, you may remember how Xbox boss Phil Spencer talked about bringing Microsoft’s Game Pass service to more platforms. While the company has now accomplished this within its own ecosystem, these comments have still left many people wondering whether the subscription service will be available on other systems, such as the Nintendo Switch.

As he has already talked about this, Spencer has said that the company is more focused on its next generation of Xbox games, and also mentioned that it is a little worried about the rumors about the selected Xbox titles that will come to the Switch.

Now, in a recent video interview with the German website Game Star, he explained how there are no plans to bring Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service to other platforms. The reason behind this is that these companies are simply “not interested in having a full Xbox experience” that Microsoft wants to offer with its Game Pass service.

This is exactly what I had to say, courtesy of TweakTown:

The thing about other game console platforms is that we cannot offer a full Xbox experience on those platforms.

In the places where we have brought Xbox, such as mobile phones as we are doing now with Project xCloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, what we have done with PC to bring our full Xbox experience there. We know that when someone is playing one of our Xbox games, there is an expectation that they have their Xbox LIVE community, that they have their achievements, Game Pass is an option for me, my first library is completely there.

The other competitive platforms aren’t really interested in having a complete Xbox experience on their hardware. But for us, we want to be where the players want to be and that is the path we are on.

It seems that if you want to enjoy Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, you will only have to access it on your PC, mobile device or Xbox One. How do you feel about it? Would you like to see a service like this offered on the Switch? Share your thoughts below.
