Folk singer Peter Yaro has been charged with felony criminal mischief for raping a minor in a Manhattan hotel room in 1969.
The allegations were made in a Supreme Court suit in Manhattan on Wednesday, brought under the Juvenile Justice Act, against three of the legendary court’s founders, Peter, Paul and Mary.
Prior to the alleged rape, Yaro met her accused, who was a fan of her music, several times in her band’s performances, the lawsuit claimed.
He then “took an interest in her,” he claims, acting out what the “paternal way” was to the small idea.
But the lawsuit alleges that in reality the folk symbol “groomed” her.
She eventually ran away from her Minnesota home and met Yaro at the Lower East Side Hotel, where he allegedly raped her.
The very next day, Yaro bought the minor a plane ticket to Minnesota and told him to walk from there, he claims.
The accuser “has been suffering from the effects of Yaro’s rape ever since.”
He is seeking compensation and punitive damages.
Yaron has a former criminal conviction of “adopting indecent liberty” with a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room in Washington, D.C., in 1970.
Messages seeking comment from Yaro and his accused’s lawyers were not immediately returned.
