Pete Battingig will be named as Biden’s vehicle affairs secretary

Battigig will be the first Senate-confirmed LGBTQ cabinet secretary if his nomination is to be made by the chamber.

Candidate Biden shines this choice to get a top job in the administration after the Democratic primary and can earn the batigig that many Democrats believe he should run for president again.

The role of transport secretary is expected to play a central role in Biden’s pressure for a bilateral infrastructure package.

Batigig is seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, but is constantly moving right into the home state of Indiana for someone who didn’t have a clear path to a high-elected position.

Batigig has emerged as a leading candidate for the role of transport secretary in recent days. The former mayor was considered a host for other positions, including U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and secretary of commerce.

Other Democrats were also considered for the position, including former Chicago mayor Reham Emanuel, Los Angeles mayor Eric Garsti and Rhode Island Govt. Including Gina Raymondo.

After ending his presidential campaign earlier this year, Batigig backed Biden and spent more of the main election fundraisers and programs for the former vice president in the general election.

Biden praised Batigig at a March event in late Las Vegas, comparing him to his late son Bau Biden.

“I know this may not mean much to most people, but for me it’s the highest compliment any man or woman can give,” Biden said at the time.

Prior to running for president, Batigig served as mayor of South Bend since 2012. He did not seek re-election in 2019.

During his tenure as mayor, Butigig was deployed to Afghanistan in 2014 as an intelligence officer.

While serving as mayor, Buttigig appeared as a gay man in a 2015 essay for the South Band Tribune. Later that year, Batigig won re-election.

Prior to participating in Office Fees, Battingig was a consultant at McKinsey & Co. in Chicago.
