Permutations of the last day of the Premier League as Manchester United, Leicester and Chelsea battle for the top four

Manchester United is preparing for its final showdown with Leicester City.

The Reds travel to King Power Stadium in hopes of closing a place in the Champions League after having overcome a 14-point gap to climb to third place with one game to go.

They face a side blow from Leicester out of shape, but in a cup final scenario, the shape could go out the window.

There is a way for both teams to get Chelsea to participate in the final fight of the day as well, while there is still more to be decided in the Europa League positions.

Here we show you all the permutations involving European places.

The race for the top four

It is a case of two out of three in the race for the top four.

United currently leads the race, third, with goal difference ahead of Chelsea and one point ahead of Leicester.

Of course, Solskjaer’s men take on Leicester on the last day, and that makes the equation a little easier.

If United wins or ties, they are inside. A United win would see Leicester finish fifth, while a draw would also see the Foxes lose unless Chelsea lose to the Wolves.

If Leicester wins, United would be lost unless Chelsea lost to the Wolves.

As for Chelsea, a draw or victory against the Wolves will close a place in the top four, no matter what.

The race for the sixth.

There is also a battle for sixth, which provides automatic qualification for the Europa League.

The sevenths are condemned to a long and arduous qualification process, which teams could do regardless of how long this season has lasted and how short the break is before the start of the next period.

As it stands, the Wolves are one point ahead of Tottenham in seventh place, but they have the most difficult of the final two games.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men face Chelsea, while the Spurs face Crystal Palace.

The wolves must match or improve Tottenham’s result to close sixth place.

With a better one-on-one goal difference, Tottenham can tie and sneak into sixth if the Lobos lose to Chelsea or win and expect the Lobos to tie or lose.
