Perimeters of lightning fires, San Francisco Bay Area

About 20 separate lightning-sparking wildfires that burned this week in the East Bay and near the San Antonio Valley have been consolidated into one management complex by the California Department of State Forest Management and Fire Protection.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fires of the SCU Lightning Complex had consumed 25,000 acres, about 39 square miles. More than half of that area was covered by the Del Puerto Fire, burning on the east side of Mount Hamilton.

The rough perimeters of the eight largest fires are shown in red on the map above. Roads for which evacuations have been ordered are marked in orange.

The fires of the complex have been broken into three zones:

Hart (Contra Costa County): Marsh, Round, Palm and Briones fire

Calaveras (Alameda / Santa Clara / Stanislaus counties): Kilkare, Arroyo, Mill Creek, Welch, Ohlone and Reservoir fires.

Canyon (Stanislaus / San Joaquin counties): Del Puerto, Peach, Peg Leg and Terraville fires.

The name of the complex is a reference to the Santa Clara Unit of CalFire, which manages the fire department.
