A recent study shows that people worldwide spend an average of 3.1 hours a day, or a quarter of their lives awake, using apps on their phones.
2020 is slated to be the largest year yet for mobile phone use, based on trends over the past four years, data and analytics website App Annie found in its 2020 report “Mobile App Evolution.”
“The importance of mobile devices has grown tremendously in the past five years,” wrote Herman Lee, senior manager of professional services at App Annie, in a blog post on July 23.
The study found that the average phone had 93 app downloads in 2019, and the average usage per day increased nearly 50 percent from 2.1 hours in 2015. The increase is due in part to faster and more reliable Internet connections, wrote the App Annie researchers.

According to the study, countries that have seen an increase include the United States, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Russia.
Herman added in the blog post that as the overall usage of apps and mobile phones has increased, “so too has the speed and the degree to which these apps can rise to the top: about a third of the top 100 apps downloaded are new entrants every year. ” “
