Pentagon pressures NBC report that Asper ‘prepares resignation letter’

The Pentagon is pushing against a report by NBC News that Secretary of Defense Mark Asper has “prepared a resignation letter” following the presidential election.

In a report released Thursday afternoon, NBC cited three anonymous “current defense officials” who accused Asper of “preparing his letter because he was one of the cabinet officials expected to be fired after the election.”

However, the report received a strong response from Jonathan Hoffman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Declaration, later in the evening.

Hoffman tweeted, “The NBC story is misleading and misleading in many ways.” It is clear that the Secretary of Defense, Asper, has no plans to resign, nor has he been asked to submit a letter of resignation. “

Hoffman added, “He continues to serve the country as Secretary of Defense with the pleasure of the President and is working on an irreversible implementation of the national defense strategy.”

A senior White House official had previously told Fox News that President Trump was planning to remove FBI Director Christopher Warren if the Democratic nominee defeated Biden. The official also said that Defense Secretary Mark Asper could step down, but the official said it was not clear if he would resign or be removed by the president. “
