Pennsylvania Tightens Coronavirus Restrictions on Businesses as Cases Increase

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf (D) tightened restrictions on companies on Wednesday as the number of new cases of coronavirus increases in the state.

Wolf’s new orders, which take effect on Thursday, reduced the ability to eat indoors to 25 percent. Bars may be open for table meals, also at 25 percent capacity, but bar service will be prohibited.

Indoor meetings are also limited to 25 people, and outdoor meetings are limited to 250 people under the new order. The Governor also requires that all companies operate by telecommuting if possible.

Wolf warned that COVID-19 cases could exceed the peak reached by the state in April if no further action is taken.

“Over the past week, we have seen a disturbing rise in new COVID-19 cases,” Wolf said in a statement. “When we reached our peak on April 9, we had almost 2,000 new cases that day and the cases from other days were around 1,000. Medical experts looking at the trajectory we are on now project that this new wave could soon overshadow the April peak. With our rapid increase in cases, we need to act again now. ”

Pennsylvania reported 994 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 97,665, according to state data.
