Penn State reverses course, will use Eastview Terrace as isolation space

After a change in plans, Penn State will use Eastview Terrace to isolate students this fall, the university Announced Thursday.

In June, Penn State said it would be use the Nittany Lion Inn quarantine, isolate, and house students affected by the coronavirus. Instead, she will now use the inn as a classroom space and individual use home for residents on campus.

According to the university, administrators are still evaluating which Eastview hallways will be used to isolate students. However, Penn State confirmed that “entire buildings will be used to keep isolated students separate from others.”

The Office of Housing Assignments plans to release room assignments on July 28. Students who were required to live at Eastview should receive direct communication from the university about campus housing options.

The 233-room Nittany Lion Inn, meanwhile, will likely absorb a number of former Eastview residents. According to the Housing website, the inn will maintain RA on-site and provide regular services such as mail cleaning supplies and board games, among others.

At this time, it’s unclear whether Nittany Lion Inn staff will still face previously announced layoffs in late June. During a town hall, Penn State President Eric Barron estimated that 79 employees would be laid off when the hotel would become a quarantine space.
