Pelosi recalls House over Postal Service crisis

Trump has long, without proof, claimed that mail-in-vote election fraud perpetuates.

“Alarmingly, we see across the nation the devastating effects of the president’s campaign to sabotage the election by manipulating the Postal Service to decipher voters,” Pelosi said in a letter to fellow Democrats on Sunday.

“That is why I call on the House to return to session later this week to vote on the Oversight and Reform Committee chair. [Carolyn] Peloney has the ‘Delivering for America Act’, which prohibits the Postal Service from implementing changes to operations or level of service it had on January 1, 2020, “Pelosi said.

Pelosi said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer would formally announce the schedule at talks with members scheduled for Monday.

House Democrats signaled this weekend that they will aggressively monitor DeJoy, who is a Trump donor and loyalist, and have demanded that the postmaster general appear for a hearing on Monday, August 24th.

Pelosi and Maloney announced the hearing this weekend, warning that the bureau’s changes “delayed the post and jeopardized the integrity of the election.” Democrats in both the House and the House of Representatives already had it required a number of documents from DeJoy and his top staff, which sought details as to why DeJoy had been overhauled during rush hour, limited deliveries and provided conflicting information about the timeline for post-in voting.

Pelosi and her leadership held on needoprop Saturday to discuss various options to treat the unrest at the Postal Service as various rank-and-file Democrats from progressive to moderate in publicly demanding action.

Some Democrats, including moderate rep. Jim Cooper (Tenn.), Said DeJoy should be arrested if he ignores a congressional ban on testifying. Democratic leaders would not pursue this option, but Cooper’s proposal, which was rejected by other Democrats, shows how angry lawmakers are about what is missing from the Postal Service.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote on an amended version of a bill introduced by Maloney last week that would block many of the key organizational changes DeJoy seeks before the election.
