Paul Scholes does not believe that qualifying for the Champions League is a “great achievement” for Manchester United, but said ensuring a return to the European club’s soccer table means progress for the club.
It seemed highly unlikely at the turn of the year, but United managed to reserve their place in next year’s Champions League after beating their top four rivals Leicester City 2-0 on the last day of the season, thanks to Bruno’s goals. Fernandes and Jesse Lingard.
It has been a remarkable change for United as they have not lost a single Premier League match since Fernandes arrived at the transfer window in January, which has seen them come to the table for a third place finish.
The Champions League qualification was crucial for the club, especially as they try to lure main objective Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford, and the achievement was happily celebrated by the players and staff after the final whistle at King Power.
Former midfielder Scholes shared a photo of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer celebrating the victory in his Instagram story and wrote: “Great achievement? No! … Progress? Yes!”

Although the Premier League season has finally concluded, United’s campaign is not yet over as they will compete in the knockout stage of the Europa League. Defender Victor Lindelof has asked the team to go and win the tournament.
“When you play for this club you should always play in the Champions League,” said Lindelof. MUTV. “We are now back in the Champions League and it is time for us to start winning trophies as well.”
“We have one trophy left to win this season and that should always be the mindset, win trophies. We have another to win in the Europa League.”
