Paul Scholes explains how Manchester United’s transfer needs have changed

Manchester United’s great player Paul Scholes believes the club now only needs two or three first-class signings to propel the Premier League, instead of four or five.

United is currently on an unbeaten streak of 16 games, has not lost in any competition since January.

The return of injuries from Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba has given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team a huge boost, especially as the pair were finally able to bond with Bruno Fernandes.

Despite their good form, United have still been out of rhythm set by champion Liverpool this season. It’s a big gap to make up for next season, but Scholes believes they are now just a few players away from being title challengers once again and wants the club to sign another center-back and top scorer.

“There is a big gap to close, there is no question about it,” Scholes told BBC Radio 5 live ahead of United’s victory over Bournemouth on Saturday. “The point difference is ridiculous and the quality of Man City is obviously there for all to see.”

“I really don’t think they are a million miles away. I know we are talking about four or five players, but I think there are two or three now.”

“I think you’re looking at a center forward, a really fancy goal scorer and possibly a midfield to play alongside [Harry] Maguire

“Look, I think [Victor] Lindelof has done well, but I think Maguire with his lack of rhythm sometimes (can be caught).

“If he has a really dominant center half next to him, like Rio Ferdinand or Jaap Stam, which intimidates the center forward, I think it would be a great help to the team.”
