1:36 p.m .: Patriots’ free agent spending spree can only begin. New England have already agreed to terms on a big deal with a tight end Jonnu Smith And defensive hull Devon Godchux Monday, and in their view they have a new big name player.

The Patriots are creating a “big push” to sign the Ravens pass-rush Matt Juden, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network Tweets. Pates feels he is “close” to signing Juden, a source told ESPN.com’s Josina Anderson (Twitter) Link). Baltimore has probably given that everything we’ve heard of this se phis recently will let Juden walk. The Ravens franchise tagged him last cycle, but a second time doing so would have been costly to ban and they never worked for a long-term deal.

In 2016, Grand Valley State’s fifth-round pick, Juden, broke out in 2017 and is improving. He has been every pro bowler in the last two seasons, with six sacks in 14 games in 2020 and 9.5 sacks a year ago.

With Godchux and now potential Juden, the Patriots’ defensive front will be much heavier in 2020. There were only 24 sacks as a team in 2020, ranking sixth in the league.
