Patriots quarterback Kim Newton will re-sign a one-year deal

The former NFL MVPA played strong games early in the 2020 season, including stellar performance in the September defeat against Seattle, but it was inconsistent in the stretch. Significant allies like Julian Edelman, David Andrews and Rex Burkehead were not helped to get hurt and injured. He completed a career crunch (as a starter), passing the yard and with a touchdown, when the team finished 7-9.

Newton set a new franchise record for most rushing yards in a season for quarterbacks. 592. The Patriots went 7-9 and missed the playoffs.

Former Patriots quarterback Jade Fish, who left the team at Se Fison to become head coach at the University of Arizona, welcomed the development.

“Glad to see this! રો Cameron Newton is a special person and a great player. Can’t wait to see it excel this season! Fisch wrote on Twitter.

In February, Newton said on the “I’m an Athlete” podcast that he was interested in re-signing with the Patriots.

“Yes, hell yes,” Newton said. “I’m tired of changing, brother. I am reaching a stage in my career where I knew more than I did last year. ”

Newton also believed that with the Patriots receiving corps they would be better off a second time.

“Duffboy [N’Keal Harry] Recognize me Jacobi [Meyers] Recognize me Bud [Damiere Byrd] Recognize me The young tight end recognizes me. The little men who are going to come to me know me, ”he said. “Like, we’re still trying to get out of the previous 20 years. And I’m going inside and I’m saying, ‘That’s not me.’ “

In 2020, the Patriots signed Newton, who was released by the Carolina Panthers as a free agent prior to training camp in July. This time, they have prevented Newton from reaching the free agency, which begins on Wednesday, the start of the new NFL “League Year.”

Newton struggled to accept New England’s offense and conceded that his mechanics needed refining and that his decision (i.e. his internal clock) needed to be speeded up.

Jarrett Stadium, built in the fourth round in 2019, is under contract during the 2022 season. He spent last season as Newton’s backup. He played five games in 2020, and completed 24 of 48 passes for 270 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
