Patrick Mahoms knocked out Derek Carr but sealed off AFC West for the Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahoms never threw a touchdown pass to move forward in the final two minutes of the game, but on Sunday night Andy Reed had the idea that there is a first for everything.

Sure enough, Mahoms came for the Reed and Kansas City Chiefs. He threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kells with 28 seconds left to give the Chiefs a 35-21 lead over the Raiders in Las Vegas.

The Chiefs can run their own record 9-1 and the AFC West -4-. The Raiders will give themselves a three-game lead over the top.

“I’ve got Pat Mahoms,” Reed said. You give me a minute and I’m fine there. We can roll.

“I’ll take it over everyone and I’m lucky with it.”

The Raiders made their next touchdown with 1:43 left, but it proved to be more time for Mahoms. The Chiefs ran 75 yards in seven plays, with Mahoms going 6-of-7. The Chiefs went third once and only needed to go down twice the second time.

A field goal would have bound the game, but the main moved into a fair range with more than 30 seconds left.

“There are steps,” Mahoms said, creating a winning drive. The first step is to try to get into the field goal range. Once we entered the field goal range we still had some time left. I was hoping we got a lot of shots in the end zone. ”

He only needs one. Kells takes pride in being exposed frequently after reading defensive coverage. But he said he misread the coverage on his winning touchdown.

“When I reached the second level, which is the linebackers, I felt the opening on the opposite hash,” Kells said. I can even go where there is void. ‘ ‘

He did. Mahoms was in search of his primary receiver Tyrick Hill, but was instead fired by open Kells.

The end of the game was applauded in many places, including LeBron James, who tweeted, “I mean there was no doubt on that drive!? !!!”

Like Cad, Reed and James, Mahoms delivered in a clutch was not surprised.

“[Mahomes] He is always ready for the moment, “said Kells. “We’ve got 15 plays back in there. It kind of offers when it’s the most important.”
