Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that 16 policemen were injured in the crash on Sunday night. Police had no rumors of injuries among football fans.

PSG had hoped to join Marseille as the only French club to win Europe’s elite football league, but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich. The defeat was met with enormous holidays in Marseille, where fans cheered and left torches and fireworks.

Back in Paris, riot police broke out in a bar near the Champs-Élysées to aggressively evict people because some did not wear masks, or keep themselves socially distracted by coronavirus concerns.

Riot police used tear gas to disperse fans gathering outside the club’s stadium. PSG hosted the match on two giant screens at Parc des Princes, with 5,000 fans allowed inside in accordance with the maximum allowed for football matches in France as part of virus protection measures.
