Paris Hilton speaks publicly about what she says she was abusing when she was in a “troubled teen” institution in Utah in the 1990s.
“The staff would say terrible things,” she told the magazine. ‘They constantly made me feel bad about myself and bullied me. I think it was her goal to break us. And they were physically abused, beaten and strangled us. They wanted to bring fear into the children that we were too scared not to hear them. ‘
Hilton’s parents sent her to the Utah facility in the late ’90s, when she was 17 and had trouble sniffing out to go to clubs or parties. She spent 11 months at the facility before leaving when she turned 18 years old.
She told the magazine she was abused by staff at the facility, and was disciplined when she tried to warn her parents about how she was being treated. She was placed in solitary confinement, she said, when staff found she was planning to run away.
“I had panic attacks and cried every day,” Hilton told the magazine. ‘I was just so sorry. I felt like a prisoner and I hate life. ‘
Hilton’s experience at the Utah facility will be highlighted in her documentary, which will be released September 14 on her YouTube channel.
The celebrity told People she wanted to talk about what happened to her to bring awareness to the “married teen industry” and the so-called schools for behavior improvement.
“I want these places to close,” Hilton told the magazine. ‘I want them to be held accountable. And I want to be a voice for kids and now adults everywhere who have had similar experiences. I want it to stop for the good and I will do what I can to make it happen. ”
Provo Canyon School has been operating in Utah since the 1970s, and has been run by a series of owners for some time.
It is currently owned by Universal Health Services, one of the nation’s largest hospital management companies based in Pennsylvania. People reported that UHS declined to comment on Hilton’s allegations, saying it could not comment on operations that took place before purchasing the facility in 2000.
