Paper Mario: The Origami King Sales Release Compared to Past Entries (Japan)

According to the latest Famitsu sales list, the new Nintendo release: Paper Mario: The Origami King – sold 109,092 copies in its first week in Japan. It debuted second, with the exclusive PlayStation 4 Ghost of tsushima taking the first place.

However, how does this particular entry compare to the previous weeks of Paper Mario’s release? According to the Game Data Library, it ranks fifth overall in terms of opening week physical sales. The best launch is for Super Paper Mario in Wii (2007), the second place goes to Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (2004), third is Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012), and fourth place is the original Nintendo 64 (2000) release.
