The story for one team at Lambou Field today was that the Green Bay Packers are taking care of business with 30-30 wins and the NFC North will continue their march towards the title. But it couldn’t be a more interesting story.
The other team was the Eagles, who benchmarked their franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz, and replaced him with rookie Jalen Hurtz. And that doesn’t seem to be a short-term decision.
The Hurts did not lead the Eagles to a comeback win, but they played better than the Wentz, and it is hard to believe that the Hurts did not do enough to advance to the next job. And it raises all sorts of questions about the future of this franchise, which has put all its eggs in Ventz’s basket, only to have Ventz play like a bad quarterback in the NFL this season.
The loss has eased the Eagles to 3-8-1, and after the Giants surprised the Seahawks to improve to 5-7 this season, the Eagles have probably been knocked out of the playoff race even in the terrible NFC East. But the arrival of Hurt could change attitudes in Philadelphia. The last four games of this season could prove to be more than anything to assess the hurts.
As for the Packers, they know they have their quarterback at Aaron Rogers, which has become the fastest quarterback to reach touchdowns today, going through 400 careers. With three touchdowns and no interruptions, Rogers completed 24 of 33 passes for 290 yards. Aaron Jones added 15 touchdowns for 130 yards and a 77-yard touchdown that put the game away in the fourth quarter.
The Packers will win their division and become a tough team to beat in the playoffs. The Eagles have gotten a good side by sticking with the Wentz this season and will not win the most winning division ever. But they will be an interesting team to watch the stretch, as there is a big controversy of quarterbacks in Philadelphia.
