NFC North Franchise Five: Green Bay Packers

No NFL team had a more confusing NFL Draft 2020 than the Green Bay Packers. While picking a quarterback in the first round was a head scratch, they followed that pick by picking running back AJ Dillon from Boston College. Dillon is a talented running back, but it was a questionable move as the Packers have two dynamic running backs in Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams. Jones even scored 19 total touchdowns last season, which was tied for the league lead. During a recent appearance on the NFL Network, Jones said Dillon’s arrival will push him to play harder in 2020.
“I know it’s the NFL. They bring boys in every day to compete, so I mean it will only improve my game and I’m excited to have him there and start working with him, showing him the playbook and everything,” Jones said, via NFL.com.
Dillon is considered one of the best running backs in this class, and he ran for 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. During his three seasons at Boston College, Dillon accumulated 4,618 scrimmage yards and 40 total touchdowns. He is someone the Green Bay offensive is expected to touch, but you must ask yourself if his game could help or harm Jones’ future with the Packers.
Jones is entering his rookie contract last year, and is not interested in signing with another club. During a Zoom call earlier this offseason, he told reporters that he wants to be a Packer for life.
“Whether it’s my first year or my last year in a deal, I’m going to be just as motivated,” said Jones, on ESPN. “It doesn’t change just because there’s a contract at stake for me. I mean, I’m going to keep working and do everything in my power. I trust my agency and the Packers. With that, I would love to be a lifelong Packer. That’s my opinion on that. “
Aaron Rodgers has plenty of weapons going into 2020, but it remains to be seen how they will be used and whether they can coexist with each other.
