We moderate the comments. Our goal is to provide substantive comments to a general public. By examining the presentations, we provide a space where readers can share intelligent and informed comments that improve the quality of our news and information.
While most comments will be posted if they are on the topic and not abusive, moderation decisions are subjective. We will do them with the greatest care and consistency possible. Due to the volume of reader feedback, we are unable to review individual moderation decisions with readers.
We value thoughtful comments that represent a variety of viewpoints that express your point quickly and courteously. We make an effort to protect discussions from repeated comments, either by the same reader or by different readers.
We follow the same flavor standards as the daily newspaper. Some things that we will not tolerate: personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity (including expletives and letters followed by hyphens), commercial promotion, impersonation, inconsistency, proselytizing and CRYING. Do not include URLs to websites.
We do not edit comments. They are approved or removed. We reserve the right to edit a comment that is quoted or extracted in an article. In this case, we can correct spelling and punctuation.
We welcome strong and critical views of our work, but we do not want the comments to get stuck with discussions of our policies and we will moderate accordingly.
We appreciate that readers and people cited in articles or blog posts point out factual or emphasis errors and will investigate all claims. But these suggestions should be sent by email. To avoid distracting other readers, we will not post comments that suggest a correction. Instead, corrections will be made to a blog post or article.
