Pa. Reports more than 1,000 new COVID-19 infections | Pennsylvania News


HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – More than a thousand additional coronavirus infections are being reported in Pennsylvania as health officials work to quell a recent spike in cases.

The state Department of Health said Tuesday that the addition of 1,027 positive cases puts the state’s count at nearly 103,000. Pennsylvania’s two largest cities accounted for about a third of the latest infections, with 139 in Allegheny County and Pittsburgh, and 168 in Philadelphia.

There were also 20 additional deaths across the state. That equals 7,038 since the pandemic hit Pennsylvania earlier this year.

The number of tests administered in the last 7 days between July 14 and 20 is 155,796 with 5,996 positive cases. There were 22,287 test results reported to the department as of 10 p.m., July 20. Results represent the total number of tests administered.

There are 952,998 patients who have tested negative to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date, the breakdown by age is as follows:

1% are 0 to 4 years old;

1% are between 5 and 12 years old;

Almost 3% are between 13 and 18 years old;

Almost 9% are between 19 and 24 years old;

37% are between 25 and 49 years old;

23% are between 50 and 64 years old; and

25% are 65 years or older.

Most hospitalized patients are 65 years of age or older, and most deaths have occurred in patients 65 years of age or older.
