HARRISBURG (KDKA) – The Pennsylvania Department of Health will report 994 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, in addition to 26 more deaths.
The total number of cases statewide has increased to 97,665 since Tuesday’s report.
The Health Department says that all 67 Pennsylvania counties have had COVID-19 cases. Current patients are isolated at home or receiving hospital treatment.
Allegheny County reports an increase of 246 cases and five more deaths today, and on the other side of the state, Philadelphia County reports an increase of 135 cases.
Meanwhile, the statewide death toll has now reached 6,957.
Most hospitalized patients are 65 years of age or older, and most deaths have occurred in patients 65 years of age or older.
There are 870,984 patients who have tested negative to date. Additionally, there are 637 probable or unconfirmed cases at this time.

Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a press release: “As the entire state is now in the green phase, we must remain committed to protecting ourselves against COVID-19 by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and avoiding large gatherings. Pennsylvania has been a model for the country on how to effectively reopen using a careful and measured approach. However, the virus has not disappeared and we are seeing cases increase, especially in southwestern Pennsylvania. “
Statewide, 37% of cases have been diagnosed in the 25-49 age group. That group continues to lead the breakdown by age. The age group of 65 years or older has almost 26% of the cases, and the group of 50 to 64 years has approximately 24% of the cases.
Here’s the full age breakdown for the state:
- 1% are 0 to 4 years old;
- 1% are between 5 and 12 years old;
- Almost 3% are between 13 and 18 years old;
- 8% are between 19 and 24 years old;
- 37% are between 25 and 49 years old;
- Almost 24% are between 50 and 64 years old; and
- Almost 26% are 65 years or older.
Breaking down the age group statistics …
The Department of Health says these regions have seen significant increases among youth ages 19-24 in each month from April through July:
- SW – Approximately 5 percent of cases in April to 23 percent of cases so far in July;
- SE – Almost 5 percent of cases in April to about 17 percent of cases so far in July;
- NE – Almost 6 percent of cases in April to nearly 17 percent of cases so far in July;
- NO: almost 7 percent of the cases in April and almost 12 percent of the cases so far in July; and
- NC – Almost 8 percent of cases in April to almost 13 percent of cases so far in July.
- SC – Approximately 7 percent of cases in April to nearly 13 percent of cases so far in July.
State health department numbers show that there are 18,384 resident cases of COVID-19 in nursing and personal care homes across Pennsylvania. Among employees, there are 3,517 diagnosed cases. That brings the total to 21,901. Of the total deaths in Pennsylvania, state authorities say 4,767 have occurred in residents of nursing or personal care centers.
Approximately 7,284 of the state’s total cases are in health workers.
Currently, the 67 counties are in the green phase of reopening.
