Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United need four players to become real challengers.
The Reds crashed out of the Europa League following a defeat against Sevilla, the Spanish club that came from behind to advance with a 2-1 win.
The defeat means that the United States ‘long season is finally over, but although it has produced some improvements – a finish of the top four and a good run in a European competition – Ole Gunner Solskjaer and his men are still not there.’ t they want to be.
And to fix that for next season, they need to strengthen in four areas this summer, according to former midfielder Hargreaves.
“I think he has learned that United have been fantastic since February, finishing third from where they were, where the top four looked unlikely in stages of the season,” he told BT Sport.
“To finish third is to have a decent season. But Ole knows the expectations are to win a title. The only way they will get there is by adding quality.
“Liverpool did it – they had one window where Alisson and van Dijk came and they turned a really good team into a great team. Ole’s at that point now, where his front three are as good as anyone in the division.
“The midfield with Pogba and Fernandes is about as good as one. She noath a defensive player to play at center-back and Jadon Sancho, and maybe a little coverage at full-back.

“Four players, that costs you a bit of mercury, but it’s worth it because they have to come back to compete for titles. I think they’re close.
“Ole deserves a lot of credit for getting them there and bringing in the right type, but now the club needs to back him up and get the players who can help make the difference.”
