Ori Dev thinks it would be “extremely difficult” to get the sequel to work at 60fps on the switch

Ori and the will of the Wisps

One of the surprise announcements of 2019 was when we discovered that Xbox Game Studios would publish Ori and the blind forest on the Switch eShop. The game made its debut on the hybrid system a month after its announcement, and we’ve been wondering ever since if we’ll ever get a chance to play the sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

Earlier this week, the game’s developer, Moon Studios, did an AMA on the Subreddit for PC games and a fan asked if there was any plan to port Ori’s second adventure to the Switch. Lead engineer Gennadiy Korol replied that although the team loves the system, they had nothing to share at the moment:

We love the Switch! But right now we have nothing to share when it comes to Ori and the Will of the Wisps port. If it ever happened, I can tell you that it would be an extremely difficult port to run at 60fps, that’s for sure!

If a port goes ahead, it seems the team would like it to match the original Ori game on the Switch, which ran at 60 fps due to all the optimizations. However, this could be quite a challenge, considering that the sequel has even had performance issues on Xbox.

So there you have it, according to Moon Studios, there is nothing to share about a potential port. Keep in mind that the initial launch on Xbox, Xbox Game Pass, and PC was only in March, so Moon Studios is still focused on that and another unannounced project that will revolutionize the ARPG genre.
