Oregon Health Authority reports 20 new cases of coronavirus in Jackson County

MEDFORD, Ore– The Oregon Health Authority reports 20 new cases of coronavirus in Jackson County on Saturday.

The 20 new cases now push Jackson County to 674 cases in a week in which the county has seen more than 100 new cases of the virus. Earlier this week, Gov. Kate Brown put Jackson County off the governor’s Watch List. Jackson County has seen a large increase in sporadic cases, 263 new cases reported within the last three weeks.

The Oregon Health Authority is expanding its communications with Jackson County Public Health and will provide technical assistance and resources. This support can range from epidemiological support, assistance with case research such as contact tracing, training for workers, and testing of resources.

“Jackson County residents have the most impact on COVID-19 transmission rates. Everyone has a role to play in preventing the spread of COVID-19. It will take us all to remove Jackson County from the watch list; to reduce the risks to our children and teachers so that they can return to classrooms this fall. It is the responsibility of the community to protect our elders and those at risk from this virus. We can keep Jackson County safe, ”said Dr. Jim Shames, Jackson County Health Officer on the case counts Friday.

There have been two deaths attributed to the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, and there are currently 222 people considered active cases.
