The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 560 new cases of coronavirus as of Monday, July 20.
The cumulative total number of positive cases for Orange County has reached 29,986 since local testing began in March.
It appears that Orange County has overtaken Riverside County as having the second-highest number of cases in the state behind Los Angeles County. According to the Riverside County Coronavirus Dashboard update on Monday, it has reached 29,983 cases. Los Angeles County leads the state with 155,887 cases reported Sunday.
There was a new death reported in Orange County on Monday, bringing the total number of residents who have died to 493.
The data on deaths in the county is either compiled from death certificates or collected throughout the investigation of the case and can take weeks to process, authorities say.
Of the 493 deaths, 232 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 17 were in assisted living facilities, and two were listed as homeless.
The state coronavirus board reports that there have been 126 deaths in Orange County in the past 14 days.
Across the county, 359,900 tests for the coronavirus have been reported since the testing began, with data through July 19. There were 7,443 daily tests reported in Monday’s update.
The state gave a test positivity rate of 10.9% for the county, with 96,773 tests conducted in the past two weeks.
The county estimates the number of recoveries from the virus is 14,366. The count of people who have recovered is based on the previous 28-day cumulative case count.
According to the California Department of Health, there have been 10,511 new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County in the past 14 days.
The state agency also reports that 747 patients hospitalized in the past 14 days (suspicious and positive) at 33 hospitals across the county as of Monday. It fell from 801 patients on Friday.
The state’s coronavirus dashboard shows that Orange County has at least 41% of its ICU beds available on Friday.
The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:
- 85 and older: 32% (154)
- 75-84: 26% (125)
- 65-74: 17% (88)
- 55-64: 13% (62)
- 45-54: 8% (43)
- 35-44: 3% (13)
- 25-34: 1% (7)
- 18-24: <1% (1)
- 17 and under: 0%
The data released daily is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
