Orange County reports 322 new cases and 16 new deaths as of August 8 – Orange County Register

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 322 new cases of the coronavirus, including on Saturday, August 8th. The cumulative total of positive provinces of the province brought 39,076 cases.

The agency notes that the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange has experienced issues with the application receiving laboratory test reports and is then sending them to CalREDIE. The California Department of Public Health is trying to resolve the issue, which could result in a lower number of daily COVID-19 positive cases received and recently reported. On Monday, the agency reported more than 17,000 tests that were lagging behind.

It is estimated that more than half of the reported cases, like 29,568 as of Saturday, are people who have recovered. The recovery count is based on the previous 28-day cumulative case count.

There were 16 new deaths reported in Orange County on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 720.

The death toll in the province has been compiled from death certificates or collected through the case investigation course and could take weeks to process, officials said. The last death was on 4 August.

Of the 720 dead, 281 were nursing home residents, 38 were in assisted living facilities and one was reported as homeless.

According to the California Department of Health, there have been at least 4,929 new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County in the last 14 days.

The province reports 459,479 tests for the virus have been given since local tracking began in March. At least 6,871 tests were given in the last day.

The province reported Saturday that 491 people with coronavirus were hospitalized, including 167 people in intensive care.

The coronavirus tracking dashboard shows that Orange County had at least 32% of its ICU beds on Saturday.

The distribution of the province of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 31% (224)
  • 75-84: 23% (162)
  • 65-74: 19% (141)
  • 55-64: 13% (90)
  • 45-54: 9% (67)
  • 35-44: 3% (24)
  • 25-34: 1.5% (10)
  • 18-24: <1% (2)
