The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 3,121 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, Dec. 13, bringing the total to 102,513 cases in the county overall.
In the last two days, 216 inmates have tested positive for the outbreak in the Orange County prison system.
The county also admitted 1,236 patients to local hospitals with coronavirus on Sunday – an increase of 86 since Saturday’s report. It surpassed the height of hospital admissions during the first outbreak of the virus in July when there were 722 people in Orange County hospitals on July 14th.
There were 284 patients listed in the ICU on Sunday. The adjusted percentage of available beds in the ICU in the county was 1.6%.
An estimated 23,700 cases have been reported in the last 14 days.
At least 21,438 tests have been reported in the last 24 hours, with 1,694,359 tests for coronavirus reported, according to the county update.
Fourteen new deaths were reported by the county on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 1,694. The most recent death was reported on 7 December.
Of the total 1,694 deaths reported from the virus, 615 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 147 were in supportive subsistence facilities and four were listed as homeless.
County breakdown of death by age is as follows:
- Age 85 and over: 32.8% (561, above 10)
- 75-84: 22.02% (372. up 2)
- 65-74: 19.52% (330, up 2)
- 55-64: 13.87% (233)
- 45-54: 7.56% (127)
- 35-44: 2.5% (42)
- 25-34: 1.43% (24)
- 18-24: 0.25% (4)
- Age 17 and over: 0.06% (1)
Officials say death statistics in the county are drawn from death certificates or collected during the investigation of the case and the process could take weeks.
An estimated 67% of cases have been reported, or 65,621 people have recovered by Sunday. The number of people recovered is based on the previous 28-day accumulated case count.
Officials insist that the data posted every day is preliminary and subject to change. More information may become available once the investigation of the individual case is completed.
