‘OnePlus Watch’ has apparently been in development

OnePlus has expanded its portfolio in 2020 with the advent of the Nord-line, OnePlus Buds, and more TV models, and it looks like more may be in store. Following the passage of a regulatory authority, the “OnePlus Watch” was also named by a former OnePlus employee.

91Mobiles today to see a list on the IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) website that describes a “OnePlus Watch” that has the model number “W301GB”. There are a few other details offered about this product, but the timing here is pretty suspicious.

OnePlus has always released products like OPPO, a company under the same parent, and with that company just launching its own smartwatch and a Wear OS-powered variant, it feels like a short jump to assume that the OnePlus watch is in a similar trant.

TechRadarhowever, spoke with an ex-employee of OnePlus who claims that the company has been in development ‘on the last year’ on a smartwatch. Once again, that feels like a hint that OnePlus takes inspiration from OPPO, as that watch debuted in early 2020 and would certainly be in development this time last year.

In the past, OnePlus director Carl Pei confirmed that the company once worked on developing its own smartwatch all the way back in 2015. In 2016, he even showed sketches of the design. While that watch actually never arrived, it looks like next year that may change. But for now, we just have to wait and see.
