OnePlus talks about the design of OxygenOS11

OnePlus shocked many of its fans this month when it unveiled the OxygenOS 11 and the major re-installation that comes with it. Now, in a forum post, OnePlus explains why it made the decision with the creation of OxygenOS 11 and how those decisions will benefit users.

The company explains that “stock Android is a good starting point,” but believes that much more can be done to improve the experience. In the past, it meant some useful features like small UI tweaks, color customization and even some custom apps. With OxygenOS11, however, OnePlus is making many major changes to its skin.

As we’ve detailed before, xygen XigenOS 11 takes the path of using space and smart design to make things easier to reach. OnePlus says it surveyed users and found the most preferred changes for apps, such as bottom-bar navigation and subtitled “headlines.” All of these changes are the same for better usability on larger displays, something the OnePlus lineup doesn’t lack.

We’ve always said that stock Android is a starting point for mobile devices, but we also believe we can do a lot to make the experience better. An important part of that process is user testing, asking the user if we can tune some design aspects to improve the experience. And all the while, we apply our burden-free vision to improve the overall look and feel.

As the size of the screens increases, so does the white space used. We wanted to make the most of that space while keeping the interface easy to use. We conducted A / B testing with our users to determine the optimal size of the headline, and found that 65% prefer slightly smaller headlines. Also, 80% of users tested the selected title without a subtitle. The result is a new title-physical hierarchy that streamlines information delivery in OxygenOS11.

Of course, OnePlus doesn’t address elephants in the post room. The design of the Oxygen OS S11 is essentially the same as Samsung’s OneUI, and the reasons why OnePlus offers fur are the same as what Samsung offered us in 2019.

Phones are bigger now, and smart software design can help make it a little easier to deal with. Nice.
