- Fixed Oxygen OS update, leading to OnePlus 8 series full data wipe.
- The problem affects OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro devices running Oxygen OS 11 open beta 3.
- OnePlus has acknowledged the issue and warned against upgrading.
OnePlus rolled out the Fixed Oxygen OS 11.0.1.1 update for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro over the weekend. However, the software that has followed the Xygen Xion OS 11 open beta 3 is anything but static. Numerous open beta 3 users who received the update reported that it was wiping their phone’s entire data.
Once the update is installed, users are asked to reboot their devices. When they do, the data on their phones is completely wiped. Unfortunately, multiple users report that their phones were set to auto-to-update and they had no choice but to install faulty software.
One user attempted to downgrade Oxygen OS 10 and try to update back to Oxygen OS 11 open beta 3 in an attempt to fix the problem. However, even when auto-updates are turned on, the user notices that the phone has self-updated, wants a reboot, and then wiped all the data again.

OnePlus, on the other hand, acknowledges the problem. An employee went to the company’s forum on Saturday, saying the OnePlus software team was investigating the matter. This person also warned users against upgrading to a static update.
“If you receive an update OTA, please double-confirm if it is an open beta update. If not, please do not install it, ”reads the instruction on OnePlus forums.
In the meantime, if you’ve already installed the update but haven’t restarted your phone, OnePlus recommends following the steps below to avoid data loss.
- Install the APK. You need to install the update after it is installed but before you restart.
- After the APK is installed, run the application and tap “Keep Data”.
- You should now be able to restart the phone without losing your data.
OnePlus says that after following the above steps, users should back up their data before rebooting their phone.
