One Direction celebrates its tenth anniversary

Earlier this month, the much-loved boy band revealed that a new website would launch on July 23, with a celebratory video made for its fans.

New content is expected, including interactive playlists, as well as reformatted EPs with B-sides and rare songs, remixes, live recordings, and acoustic versions of tracks.

We take a look at some of the band’s most iconic moments.

The group started in 2010 on “The X Factor” after Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson auditioned.

Individually, they didn’t make the cut, but they formed into a boy band, which is now one of the most successful in history.

Although the band didn’t win the talent show, their performances, including a portrayal of Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn”, impressed the judges. Simon Cowell signed the band with his label, and the rest, as they say, is history.

International successes

One Direction, also known as 1D, had great success in the UK, with four UK number one singles, 14 UK top 10s and a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The group became the first group to have their first four-album debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and they even filmed a music video with UK Prime Minister at the time, David Cameron, for a charity single. .

Huge fan base

Despite announcing a parenthesis five years ago, One Direction still has a dedicated fanbase: The group’s YouTube channel has more than 31 million subscribers and more than 10 billion views, and the combined reach of official pages. The band’s social media account is 85.9 million (that includes Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

The band has sold more than 200 million records worldwide and has had more than 21 billion streams on all platforms, according to a Legacy Recordings release.

The group breaks up and the fans mourn.

That same year, hearts were broken worldwide when the remaining members of the band announced that they would go their separate ways. All five members have launched music projects.

Some members of the group have parted ways with the music: Styles tried his luck at acting, taking part in Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkerque”, Malik released an autobiography, while Tomlinson performed a concert as a judge for the American version of “The X Factor” . ”

Three out of five members of the band are parents, or waiting: Tomlinson and Payne welcomed the children, while Malik is expecting a son with the model Gigi Hadid.

Directors may still be waiting for that long-rumored meeting, but hopefully Thursday’s offer will help quench their thirst until the boys are more forthcoming with their plans.
