One day in the new mask law, one man is dead and another injured in a dispute at a Michigan store

A 43-year-old man entered the store without wearing a mask and was confronted by a 77-year-old customer for not wearing a face mask, according to a statement from the Michigan State Police.

Both men left the store and argued in the parking lot. It was then that the suspect stabbed the older client and fled in a car.

He was later seen on the road and was detained by a deputy from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect got out of the car and approached the officer with a knife.

“The deputy tried to increase the distance by backing up and subsequently shot and wounded the suspect,” police said.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he later died. The 77-year-old wounded man is alive but has been hospitalized. The deputy was not injured, state police said.

Both incidents are still under investigation by the Michigan State Police, the statement concluded.

Michigan residents must wear masks

On Monday, an executive order from the governor went into effect requiring Michigan residents to wear face masks indoors and outdoors.

This is the governor’s second order requiring masks since the pandemic began, and companies must now refuse entry and service to customers who do not comply with the use of a mask.

Otherwise, customers could face a misdemeanor charge and a $ 500 fine. Any business that fails to comply could have its license temporarily suspended.

The mandate excludes those who cannot medically wear a mask.
