SYRACUSE, NY – Coronavirus hospitalization today reached a record level of 92, the highest since the epidemic began in March, Onandaga County executive Ryan McMahon said.
McMahon also noted the deaths of two more people in Onandaga County: an 88-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man.
The number of hospital admissions is higher as the county’s daily caseloads range from 150 to 240 a day.
In the last 24 hours, hospitals had 20 new patient admissions, he said.
But when the case load is high, they seem to be stable, he said.
Another 219 new cases were reported in the county, he said. Eight cases are down since yesterday.
On Thursday, the county confirmed 227 new cases. On Wednesday, the county set a new record of 240 confirmed cases.
And when looking at the week by week, the numbers look more stable, he added.
“We’re on track for as many cases as we did last week.” That’s better than last week, when growth has increased by 90%.
“It looks like our case is a bit lengthy,” McMahon said. He added that he believes residents of the county can ignore predictions that the virus will grow over the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Let’s really get annoyed,” he added, urging people to be cautious, limit gatherings and follow health guidelines.
He said the county also conducted 1,559 tests in schools today. Only four tests came back positive.
Overall, the county conducted about 2,000 tests on people with no symptoms – and they found six positive, he said.
