The Instagram feed has made some big changes over the years, but its latest is probably the biggest. Over the past 24 hours, Instagram has been running for all users and completing your feed with “Suggested Posts.”
Yes, it’s pretty bad.
With this latest update from the server side, Instagram now lets you show only brand new posts in your Homescreen feed. Once you’ve seen all of the accounts you follow, you’ll see the message “You’re all aware” that has been running for a few years, and then the app will show you its contents’ t you do not follow.
These “Suggested Posts” are driven based on who you are to do follow, but none of the content displayed will come from accounts you actually follow. It’s also not the same content as the ‘Explore’ tab, because it actually focuses a little more on your interests directly (via The edge).
You will still be able to view the ‘old’ messages from accounts you follow, but the homepage screen will now run endlessly with this other content. It’s easily the biggest change to the app so far, and apparently not everyone is happy about it. The company clearly expected that too, as they were silent about the change on official accounts. For Instagram, however, it is a complete win that will likely see users spend more time in the app and in turn see more ads as well.
