The No. 4 Oliois state game scheduled for Saturday has been canceled, with events announced Friday night, 14 hours before the kickoff. The decision to cancel the game, which was scheduled for ET at noon, came after Ohio State coach Ryan Day tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

The day’s positive test came as part of “an increased number of positive tests this week,” a statement released by Ohio State said.

Ohio State Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Line Coach Larry Johnson was set to take over as Buccaneers’ interim coach on Saturday before the game was canceled.

The cancellation means that Ohio State will play only seven games, most likely, this season the College Football Playoff will announce its participants on December 20th. .

Ohio State’s Covid-19 outbreak contradicts the program’s previous claim of “Aug Gust. 11 to about 0% positivity.” Before the game was canceled, the Buccaneers changed their travel plans due to positive tests. Instead of going to Illinois on Friday, the team planned to make a flight on Saturday morning, arriving just hours before the kickoff.
