Nike’s ISPA sub-label has unveiled its full line of footwear and apparel 2020. Originally launched in 2018, ISPA stands for “Improvise, Clean, Protect, Adapt” and aims to create a product capable of taking on “unique and changing challenges of the man-made environment “through a combination of utility and performance. Five new shoe silhouettes – ISPA Zoom Road Warrior, ISPA Overreact, ISPA Overreact Sandal, ISPA Flow 2020, and ISPA Drifter – are paired with versatile jackets and tops, all designed with a modern urban lifestyle in mind.
First there is the Road Warrior, a shoe designed for constant movement. Drawing inspiration from athletics, basketball, training and outdoor footwear, he juxtaposes the Nike Shox open heel with dual-stack Zoom Air cushioning units and underfoot plates. This provides a nod to other modern Nike shoes like Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% and Air Zoom BB NXT, while the knitted upper with strap is based on training and hiking shoes.
Next up is the Overreact, a woven silhouette with an asymmetric collar and a sturdy React foam midsole. Originally debuted in a special Prodisim ISPA zine uses data collected from past React silhouette geometries such as React Element 87 for a midsole that conforms to natural foot movement. This guarantees maximum cushioning and minimum volume, even the insoles and strobels have been removed, allowing the user to sit directly on the React foam pillow.
Overreact DNA is also copied for an Overreact sandal. This hybrid style combines visible and hidden layers on its stacked uppers for a breezy fit, while the React foam midsole uses an abstract tread pattern to guide makeshift drive systems. These pieces combine to make the collection’s summer-ready style, one that looks a bit like a futuristic Nike ACG project.
Balancing breathability and structure, Flow 2020 uses a stripped upper with cut-out midfoot details and synthetic construction. This bold construction aims to solve a common problem, hot feet in the summer months, by applying innovative heat mapping logic to performance footwear, and serves a full-foot React midsole for exemplary comfort.
For the final sneaker style, ISPA presents the Drifter, with a Tabi toe from Maison Margiela-esque. Combining the spirit of a Japanese work boot with the construction of a lightweight casual shoe, the Drifter sits on a midsole made partially from redesigned ZoomX foam. High-cut upper parts with external straps ensure a locking fit, and unique support systems allow the sneakers to wrap their kicks both from the front and from the center of the eyes.
Finally, a unique clothing collection was created with the urban traveler in mind. Focusing on Dri-FIT and the previously released Inflate jacket, the collection also offers skinny suits, long-sleeved tops, and shorts to keep users cool and comfortable.
Nike’s ISPA collection will see a staggered launch in the Nike web store over the course of the summer months, beginning with the release of Overreact on July 9. The Zoom Road Warrior follows on July 10, the Overreact Sandal on July 31, and the Flow 2020 on August 13. The Drifter will wrap up the release list on September 1.
