Notre Dame added a third offensive lineman to their 2021 engagement list today when North Oaks (Minnesota) Torino-Grace high school three-star offensive Joe Alt He decided to play his college ball for the Fighting Irish. He is ranked 12th for Notre Dame this cycle.
Alt was seriously considering Iowa and Minnesota down the stretch and had excellent relationships with both coaches, but in the end, Notre Dame did the job. This was a team effort by the Irish staff. Offensive line Jeff Quinnoffensive coordinator Tommy Rees and special teams coordinator and recruitment coordinator Brian Polian He did the job
Notre Dame offered Alt, the son of former University of Iowa and Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle John Alt, on May 24. It was then that Fighting Irish raised the temperature and made a move to land him. The assistant coaches started the virtual tours and showed exactly how it would fit on the football side.
“One of the days was a lot about seeing Notre Dame,” said 6-7, 260 pounds. “There were a lot of videos showing the campus and everything. Part of that day was also Coach Quinn sitting down and explaining his career game philosophy and passes, blocks and the like. On the second day, I sat down with Coach Polian and I just talked about the numbers and history of Notre Dame and how not only are you going to be an athlete, but you must be a student athlete.
“I would say Notre Dame is very different from what other campuses are. I feel like it’s kind of old school, but the whole campus is for the soccer team. They do the rallies and everything, and I’ve never seen other colleges do that. I thought it was really cool, “added Alt, who hasn’t been on campus yet.” Just watching the video of how much students endorse soccer players and how much they love being around him. That was something hit the mark. “
Notre Dame then pressed all the right buttons from an academic perspective. The staff put him in touch with multiple academic advisers, professors, and counselors, and that was more or less what sealed the deal on the stretch.
“It was with Professor Seelinger. It was an individual Zoom call between him and me,” Alt said of this week’s meeting with the Notre Dame professor. Michael Seelinger. “He opened with a brief introduction about himself and his general engineering program there. Then he opened it for my questions.
“I’m pretty focused on mechanical engineering, what he went through all of that and what exact classes he would be taking, “Alt continued.” I’ve taken a couple of AP credits in high school, so I’d be ahead in math. He was showing me what math classes he would take compared to what he had already taken. We talk about anything I would like to have in a minor or possible internships, things like that.
“I also held a general meeting for academic assistance. I spoke with Adam Sargent last week. I really liked it, “added Alt.” He was direct with me on how everything works. It went right. He’s a good guy. “
This is a great victory for Notre Dame. The staff was looking for length, potential and upside in the position and it is clear that Alt ticks all those boxes. Stay cooped up in Irish Illustrated for a ton of coverage of the new Notre Dame engagement.
