John Kasich (R) of ‘fighting’ against women’s rights’ after he suggested she had received ‘outside publicity’ relative to her role in the party.
Kasich, who sought the GOP’s presidential nomination in 2016, is set to tackle the virtual Democratic National Convention this week, as does Ocasio-Cortez. In an interview with BuzzFeed News, the former governor suggested that the New York congresswoman is in favor of publicity for “people at the extreme.”
“You know, I always listen to people who make these statements, and because AOC gets a lot of publicity, it does not mean that it represents the Democratic Party,” he said. ‘She’s just a part, just some member of it. And it’s on both sides, whether it’s the Republicans or it’s the Democrats. ”
Ocasio-Cortez responded in a tweet Monday: ‘It’s great that Kasich has woken up and realized the importance of supporting a Biden-Harris ticket. I hope he gets through with GOP voters. It also tells me that a Republican who fights for women’s rights does not say who is representative of the Dem Party. “
It’s great that Kasich is awake & realized the importance of supporting a Biden-Harris ticket. I hope he gets through to GOP voters.
Yet it also tells me that a Republican who fights for women’s rights is not allowed to say who is representative of the Dem Party. https://t.co/38h6JGpbMj
