At 8 a.m. in Chelsea, a train derailed at 8th Avenue and 14th Street train stations, sustaining damage.
Officers described the man being interrogated as a 30-year-old homeless man. They say a witness saw him throwing construction debris on the subway track.
They are currently being interrogated at Transit District 2, the cost of which is outstanding.
NYCT Interim President Sarah Feinberg said in a statement: “The northbound train came in contact with debris on the roadbed as it was being towed to the 14th-8th Ave station, causing the wheels to derail. “All the passengers aboard the train were safely discharged at the station. The matter is under investigation.”

The MTA says all four tracks were damaged in the incident.
“As a result of this incident, a northbound train near 34th Street remains in the tunnel and NYCT is working quickly to remove customers from the train,” Feinberg said.
Sarah Meyer, chief consumer officer for NYC Transit, also commented on the situation.
I am very angry that someone did this on purpose, but thankfully no one was seriously injured. Don’t mess with our subway – it’s for all of us !! https://t.co/FtEJUnOvhz

The train had about 30 passengers. No serious injuries were reported at this time.
