New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told President Trump on Thursday that “we will see you in court.” During recent protests he has claimed that violence and destruction of property are allowed.
“I want to talk directly to the president,” de Blasio said during a press conference Thursday morning. “If you continue to try to deny the funds that are keeping New York City in the midst of this crisis, we will see you in court and once again we will beat you in court.

“Your words do not carry much weight on this subject, as the Supreme Court speaks,” de Blasio said. “The president of the United States can’t just interfere in funding for cities and states, as he sees fit.”
In addition to de Blasio’s remarks, the Democratic mayors of four cities issued a statement Thursday.
“Our cities and the millions of Americans we represent are not President Trump’s political pawns,” he said in a statement. “We are facing unprecedented challenges – fighting epidemics and economic catastrophe without another stimulus. Now, instead of the White House leadership, we are facing new attacks that are illegal, unconstitutional and will undoubtedly be defeated in court.”

In a memo to the attorney general and budget director of the White House, the president called for a review of all federal funds provided to the four cities, saying, “It is imperative that the federal government review the use of federal funds by authorizing jurisdictions. Chaos, violence and destruction in American cities. “
Amidst police brutality, systemic racism and summer-long protests against Trump himself, all four cities have witnessed a variety of violence and property destruction.

“My administration will not allow the federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate in the legal field,” Trump wrote in the memo. Trump wrote in the memo.
