NVIDIA posted a short teaser this morning on its GeForce brand Twitter feed, announcing what they call the “ultimate countdown”. The Confirmed Tweet includes a short, abstract video, along with the ultimate countdown hashtag.

Meanwhile, and more relevantly, the company has also updated the banner that was used in its Twitter profile to reflect its latest marketing campaign, with the additional text of “21 days, 21 years.”
Given the countdown theme of NVIDIA’s new campaign, it’s a reasonable bet that NVIDIA will count over the next 21 days in preparation for the announcement of something new. Which would have landed that announcement on Monday, August 31stst. The 31st, happens in turn with the 21st anniversary of when the original GeForce 256 (SDR) was announced, which would bring the entire ordeal into full circle.
NVIDIA recently announced its Ampere GPU architecture and the first data center product based on it – the A100 accelerator – back in May. This in turn has generated a lot of expectation for the release of consumer parts based on the new architecture. And with the current generation of two-year-old NVIDIA Turing parts, the company has historically been thankful for a refurbishment of GeForce products.
So we can only assume that NVIDIA is gearing up to announce Ampere gaming parts later this month. Otherwise, there will be a lot of disappointed gamers on August 31stst.
