On Wednesday, John Olmstead, a second attacking lineman for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, posted his name in the transfer portal. He announced it via Twitter with a brief statement:
“For personal reasons that I would prefer to keep private, I decided to enter the transfer portal. I would like to thank Coach Kelly and Notre Dame for the opportunity to pursue my degree and play college football at the highest level. ”
John was a member of the 2019 recruitment class for the Irish and he is the first to transfer as a transfer from Notre Dame.
Notre Dame is still very deep along the offensive line after many solid years recruiting the position group. However, if there is still a full 2020 season, that depth can be put to the test with all COVID-19 protocols. There has been no indication over the past year that Olmstead was on the mix in the mix – although that does not say much about his youth.
The 2020 scholarship has now been updated to include Colin Grunhard on guard with a scholarship that keeps the Irish at 85.
