De Angels reset Andrelton Simmons of the 10-day injured list and placed catcher Max Stassi (right quad-strain, knee-jerk) on the IL, the team announced. Simmons is back after a three-week absence due to a sprained left ankle. It could be an interesting next 10 days for Simmons, a soon to be free agent who the non-combatant Angels can choose to move to before the August 31 trading date. However, the 30-year-old Simmons will spend the next month-plus trying to increase his stock market before reaching the open market for the first time in his career. He dealt problems with injuries (including to his ankle) in a down season in 2019, and he has hit a little .188 / .188 / .250 in 16 record appearances this year.
- Yankees manager Aaron Boone published Friday updates on some of her key players who are on the IL, WFAN told (via Marly Rivera of ESPN.com) that right fielder Aaron Judge is “probably” to be in the Yankees lineup for their next game (which will not be this weekend, as their series with the Mets was postponed). Judge has been with a mild calf strain for a week. Meanwhile second baseman DJ LeMahieu does “Significantly better” as he recovers from the left thumbstervine that sent him to the IL last weekend. And relief Zack Britton, who defeated the Yankees Thursday with a tight left hamstring, should recover “On the shorter side.”
- De Royals announced that they have placed catcher Salvador Perez on the IL, retroactively until August 18, with left eye central serous chorioretinopathy and recalled left ventricle Randy Rosario. Perez’s release has plagued him since last weekend and hampered his vision, although it is not thought to be a long-term problem. After missing out last year due to Tommy John surgery, Perez enjoyed a strong return season with a .307 / .326 / .511 line, four home runs and a 25 percent catch-steal percentage before moving to the IL.
- Astros outfielder Michael Brantley is eligible for activation Saturday, but manager Dusty Baker said Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle and other reporters he is “Not really optimistic” that will happen. It looks like Brantley needs a little more time to recover from a straight quad injury that has plagued him since August 11th. Baker also suggested (fia Rome) that’s still an Astro right hand Josh James – will likely continue on the IL. James suffered a hip injury and had to be helped off the field in Colorado on Thursday. That remained a nightmare of a season for James, who handed over 13 deserved runs on 12 hits and 14 walks (with 13 strikeouts) in 10 2/3 innings.
