Young Labor Women Take a Hard Line with Party Culture – NRK Trøndelag – Local News, TV and Radio

– In recent years, a question has haunted me: “Is it worth it? Is it worth getting involved in a party where women are constantly oppressed?” Asked Sofie Rosten Løvdahl, representative of the Trondheim city council.

The debate in the party has stalled ahead of the Trøndelag Labor Party’s annual meeting in the county. Several young party members have taken a hard line against a culture.

– Sexual harassment is not something that happens in a distant Oslo bubble. It’s happening here, and it’s been happening for a long time, Løvdahl said as she raised her index finger.

– It has happened because our main party colleagues have left it. It has happened in a systematic way.

– now I’m relieved

Rennebu’s Marit Bjerkås was nominated as leader of Trøndelag Ap on Friday night. The day before, the nominating committee ruled out Trond Giske as the lead candidate. Giske will now not want to run on a potential bank proposal for the leadership position. He is also retiring as a parliamentary candidate for the next elections.

The drama is still far from over, as there may be bench proposals for another woman: Ingvild Kjerkol, who rages against the chairman of the nominating committee.

However, Løvdahl is hopeful ahead of today’s leadership elections.

– I was really terrified today. Now I feel relieved. Relieved that the news came yesterday that I don’t have to be ashamed of my own party, Løvdahl said.

– Now I can vote for my own party in the next parliamentary elections.

The city council representative believes Saturday’s leadership election is the most important election the county party has ever made.

– It was a while before metoo reached Trøndelag. Now metoo is finally here. Thank you, she said to applause and cheers from the annual meeting.

CULTURE: Kristin Nybrodal believes that culture has stifled the commitment they once had in the organization

Fears that kids’ clubs will continue

Several women now believe that the county party must address culture in the organization.

– My biggest fear is that kids clubs still exist and the fact that some brave ladies stand out has only helped a little on the road, said Kristin Nybrodal of AUF in Malvik.

She believes that the culture has stifled the commitment they once had in the organization. Nybrodal has a strong expectation that the new county council will address culture once and for all.

Nybrodal also wants to be able to tell new AUF members that they have nothing to fear.

Thanks to the woman who stood out

Julie Indstad Hole conducted AUF at Trøndelag 2017–2019. She also addressed me in her speech.

– The leadership choice we take today means a lot to me personally, said Hole, who is today a city councilor in Trondheim.

He especially thanked Sandra Skillingsås, who in Adresseavisen stood up and accused Giske of inappropriate behavior at a nachspiel in 2014.

– I want to thank you, Sandra. You have brought us into the light, from a darkness difficult to describe. Thank you very very much. Finally, metoo made it to Trøndelag, the former AUF leader said.

Hole would not be interviewed after the speech.

-I said what I have to say from the rostrum, Hole tells NRK.

– You should be safe

Trøndelag AUF originally supported the nominating committee’s recommendation with Giske as the lead candidate, but withdrew support on Thursday.

In his speech, the current AUF leader in Trøndelag, Håkon Einarsve, also took a hard line against culture.

– The last days have been hard, but unfortunately necessary. We cannot deviate from the unwavering demand that you must always be safe in the Labor Party. It is our damned duty to hear what has happened, even if it does not affect you, Einarsve said.
