Forensic psychiatry experts strongly doubt that Makaveli Lindén was sane when he killed Heikki Bjørklund Paltto (24). However, the prosecution and defense attorney believe that he was psychotic and should be sentenced to compulsory mental health care.
Heikki Bjørklund Paltto, 24, lived in a bus with friends in Majorstuen in Oslo.
The prosecution believes that he was murdered around 0800 on the morning of October 15, two years ago, when the defendant Makaveli Lindén stabbed him about 45 times in the head, neck and upper body. The 24-year-old suffered serious internal injuries and died of bleeding and shortness of breath.
This is how Heikki’s group of friends (24) recalls: Honest, committed, supportive and thoughtful
The prosecution believes that Lindén left Oslo only hours later. He went to his father’s house in Uppsala before fleeing to the mainland. Nine days later, he was arrested by the French special police on the Dijon train platform.
Lindén is a Swedish citizen and his name was Christian Bo Lindén before changing his name. He had previously been convicted on several occasions of robbery, robbery, threats, violence and violations of drug laws.
Believe that he cannot be punished
Court-appointed experts believe Lindén was psychotic when he was observed, but have concluded that they believe he was sane at the time of the crime. However, the prosecution believes that he cannot be punished because they believe that he is insane at the time of the crime.
– We have issued an indictment with a request for transfer to mandatory mental health care, says prosecutor Trude Antonsen to VG.
Defender of Makaveli Lindén: – He was in a coma for several days in France.
Lindén has admitted that he committed the murder, and the central question for the court to decide is whether he is sentenced to be transferred to compulsory mental health care or sentenced to a sentence, in which case the custodial sentence is reserved.
– The question of the reaction is the legal question in this case, says Antonsen.
The defense also believes that the defendant should be considered insane.
The trial against the 22-year-old Swede begins Monday at the Oslo District Court.
Lindén has admitted that on October 15, 2018, he broke into the apartment and killed Heikki Bjørklund Paltto (24). During questioning, Lindén explained that the 24-year-old was a random victim.
Since February this year, Lindén has been admitted to the Dikemark psychiatric hospital in Asker.
Suspect of new murder during escape
Lindén is also suspected of killing Belgian Johanna Jostemeling while she was on the run.
Belgian investigators have been in Norway to try to question Lindén, but Lindén refused to speak to them.
– He is wanted by the Belgian side, but the Belgian authorities wait to present a formal arrest warrant until the case is completed, that is, it is legally resolved in Norway, says prosecutor Trude Antonsen.
